Program details
Through this trip we will visit these two villages of Portugal. Óbidos is an authentic medieval village in which time seems to have stopped. Despite being very small, it is a National Heritage Site and there is no lack of reasons for it! Among the visits to be made in Óbidos are, among others, the Porta da Vila, a balcony covered with tiles; its walls, which we can climb to obtain one of the best views of Óbidos; the Óbidos Castle, which is one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal; the Aqueduct, more than three kilometers long or the Óbidos Lagoon, the largest salt lake in Portugal.
But if we want to do something typical, we cannot stop strolling along its Rua Dereita. Here we will find numerous shops where we can make local crafts, or souvenirs and we will be able to taste the typical Ginjinha, cherry liqueur, but served in chocolate glasses! We will take advantage of the visit to Óbidos to eat. The offer is as varied as it is delicious, and it is a good occasion to sit down and enjoy some of the Portuguese gastronomy. Specifically, the typical dish of Óbidos is the “soaked enguias”.
Nazaré, our next destination, is a small fishing village where tradition rules. Tradition and surfing… Thanks to the so-called Nazare Canyon, thanks to which the largest waves in the world have been recorded, this town is not only beautiful, it is one of the stops on the world surfing route. This square is so important that the wave that Garret McNamara surfed at more than 30 meters is already legendary. It was January 2013, and Hawaiian was becoming living history.
But Nazaré is not only saltpeter and table. It is a beautiful fishing village that has known how to take care of the environment and tradition. Among its most typical images are its boats, its tireless vendors of dried fruits with their colorful clothes, or its horse mackerel. If we want one of the best views of Nazaré, we must go to Sítio, to the Mirador de Subero. Once the free time that we will have ends, we will return to Lisbon.
