Day 1:
Salta
You will arrive in Salta. Reception and private transfer to the hotel.
In the afternoon, private city tour visiting the main attractions: the Cathedral Basilica, the Cultural Center of the Americas, the Northern Historical Museum (Cabildo) with exhibits of sacred art and rooms dedicated to old Salta families, the Minor Basilica of San Francisco, San Bernardo Convent of the Carmelite order, the Güemes Monument, ascent to San Bernardo Hill for a panoramic view of the city, stop at the February 20th Monument where the Battle of Salta took place, visit to the summer village of San Lorenzo on the outskirts of the city with its subtropical microclimate, and the Artisan Market. Return to the hotel.
Day 2:
Salta – Cachi
Breakfast. Full-day regular excursion to the town of Cachi.
Departure through the Lerma Valley. Arrival at the village of El Carril, a typical town of the region, whose name comes from the forced route that connected the Calchaquí and Lerma valleys. The journey continues through the Quebrada de Escoipe, a narrow valley of deep green surrounded by mountains, until reaching the impressive Cuesta del Obispo, a road with numerous curves offering panoramic views of the Enchanted Valley. The highest point is reached at Piedra del Molino (3,348 meters above sea level). Then, traveling along the Recta de Tin-Tin, an ancient Inca road, you cross Los Cardones National Park, named after the dominant cactus species in the area, with specimens up to 3 meters high. Upon arrival in Cachi, you will enjoy incredible views of the Nevado de Cachi and Payogasta. Free time for lunch and to explore this colonial-style village, head of the Calchaquí Valleys, with stone-based houses and adobe walls coated in lime and sand, giving them their characteristic white color. Visit the church, one of the oldest in the region. Return to the hotel.
Day 3:
Salta – Purmamarca
Breakfast. “Safari to the Heights” in a 4x4 vehicle. Departure from Salta, with the adventure beginning in the Toro River Gorge, where you can observe the railway line adding to the natural beauty. Pass by the pre-Inca city of Tastil and its site museum, where you first encounter the unique Puna landscape. Near there, in San Antonio de los Cobres, you will have free time for lunch. Then departure to the Salinas Grandes to admire an endless white landscape. Afterwards, descent into the valleys of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, arriving in the picturesque town of Purmamarca in the afternoon. At the foot of the Hill of Seven Colors, visit the town square and its indigenous artisan market.
Day 4:
Purmamarca – Salta
Breakfast. In the morning, before departing to Tilcara, it is the best time to take photos of the Hill of Seven Colors. Continue along the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the landscape and colorful mountains blend with equally vibrant local cultures. A journey of cultural connection and ancestral heritage.
Departing from Purmamarca, pass by the Posta de Hornillos and arrive in Tilcara. Optionally, visit the Pucará (ancient indigenous fortress). Continue to Huacalera and cross the Tropic of Capricorn, from where you can see the colors of the mountain known as “Pollera de la Colla.” The city of Humahuaca is briefly passed to head toward the impressive Hornocal mountain range, also known as the Hill of 14 Colors. On the way back, free time for lunch in Humahuaca and a visit to the historic center, including the Cathedral, the Cabildo, and the Independence Monument (also called “El Indio”).
Return to Salta with a stop at the Uquía Chapel (the oldest in the gorge, with notable Cuzco-style artwork). The afternoon sun offers beautiful views of the eastern mountain range, especially the Painter’s Palette, framing the village of Maimará. Return to the hotel.
Day 5:
Salta
Breakfast. Private transfer to the airport to board your Aerolíneas Argentinas flight (flight not included).
