Welcome to
Samui Elephant Kingdom, where we believe in compassionate and positive reinforcement to take care of our elephants. Our work ethic is centred around treating our elephants and our mahouts like family members, and we aim to improve the health and well-being of our elephants while promoting the rehabilitation of captive elephants.
During our tour, you will witness our herd free range forage for food on our beautiful
400m long Skywalk, the first of its kind in Samui. This naturalistic observation allows you to see our elephants express their natural physical, social and cognitive behaviour to the fullest extent possible.
Our mahouts play an intrinsic role in caring for our elephants, and many of them come from traditional families where previous generations have cared for elephants in trekking camps. Without their care and positive reinforcement techniques, we would not be able to function. They have been on a transformational journey with us and understand that being kind and caring to our herd is the very best way to ensure happy elephants.
At Samui Elephant Kingdom, caring for elephants is almost a spiritual practice, and we perform a beautiful ceremony known as Pakam change each month to honour and their ancestors.
Our mission is to promote and assist in the rehabilitation of captive elephants and to meet their individual needs so that they can live to their full potential. We aim to improve the health and well-being of our elephants by offering specialized veterinary care and rehabilitating traumatized, sick, abused, isolated, and psychologically damaged elephants.
We also work with the local community to further their understanding of the needs of captive elephants and ensure good practice in elephant care and conservation. Our program includes a visit to Power Ball Kitchen where you can cook supplementary foods for elephants, a walk with elephants to observe their healthy bath behaviour and protective mud spa, and a delicious Thai and International food spread with seasonal fruits.
