Day 1:
On horseback to discover the Kekla volcano and the Tindafjallajökull glacier.
Exploring Iceland on horseback is a must for lovers of equestrian tourism... a mystical land shaped by the elements, where the force of nature is tangible. A landscape created over centuries by the volcanic eruptions of Hekla and the movements of the Tindafjallajökull glacier, whose 5 km diameter caldera formed 54,500 years ago. Its highest peak is named Ymir, a giant of ice in Norse mythology.
The well-known and fascinating volcano Hekla (Ecla in Italian) stands nearly 1,500 meters tall and is Iceland's most famous and active volcano. In the Middle Ages, it was believed to be the gateway to Hell. It is also mentioned by our own Leopardi in a passage of "Operette Morali."
We will ride fast on soft lava terrain, black sand dotted with emerald green grass. The power of nature and the mysticism of these places are palpable; we will encounter hidden valleys, lush pastures, and mighty rivers. We will follow the trails of legendary Vikings, like Gunnar of Hlíðarendi from the Saga of Njál, who traveled these lands when he was caught in one of his many battles. Immersed in majestic nature, you will be part of a journey that will stay in your memory for life.
